Vikram believes housing is a right, public services are the foundation of dignity, and the government should be judged by whether it helps ordinary people afford a decent life.&nbsp;</p><p><strong>He is building a big tent coalition united by a simple belief: Ontario works best when everyone has the opportunity to live a life of dignity.&nbsp;</strong></p><p><strong>He is running to lower costs, freeze rents, build public and non-profit housing, defend universal public health care, invest in schools, strengthen worker protections, expand access to post-secondary education, and restore trust in public institutions.&nbsp;</strong></p><p>As the son of a father who immigrated from India and a mother with roots in rural Ontario, Vikram is as a candidate focused on building a broad coalition across class, geography, and generation around fairness, security, and dignity.</p><p>A graduate of the University of Toronto, Sorbonne University, McMaster University and the University of British Colombia Faculty of Law, Vikram brings a background in constitutional law, community work and human rights to public life. He is a published writer and frequent commentator, with work that has appeared in the Globe and Mail, the Hill Times, iPolitics and Policorner.<strong><br></strong></p>

<h5>Ontarians should need an OHIP card, not a credit card, to access care.</h5><p>We'll give Ontario the best nurse-to-patient ratios in the country, ban private nursing agencies from our hospitals, stop privitization and make universal mental healthcare part of OHIP.</p><p>We will bring permanent public healthcare infrastructure to rural and Northern Ontario, because healthcare is a public service, not a privilege determined by your postal code or your ability to pay.</p>

<h5>Housing is a human right - no one should be priced out of a place to call home.</h5><p>As Ontario faces a housing crisis, we will <strong>freeze rents</strong>, protecting four million Ontarians.</p><p>We will bring in a <strong>Tenant Bill of Rights and a 100-day LTB guarantee</strong> to protect families, and<strong> restore rent control </strong>to post-2018 builds, securing 250,000 homes.</p><p>We will build 100% public housing at a historic rate — including co-operative and supportive housing, and tens of thousands of rent-geared-to-income homes designed to meet the diverse needs of our province.</p><p>We support inclusive zoning that protects the character and quality of life in communities.</p>

<h5>Everyone deserves the opportunity to build a life of dignity, security, and success, no matter where they call home.</h5><p>Northern Ontario creates enormous wealth while its communities are left with unsafe roads, fewer services, and fewer options.</p><p>We'll deliver a <strong>New Deal for Northern Ontario with a Jobs, Healthcare, and Housing Guarantee.</strong></p><p>We'll twin northern highways, strengthen road-repair standards for seasonal flooding, and build permanent public healthcare infrastructure.</p><p>For too long, Queen's Park has asked the North to give more and settle for less. We'll make sure Northern wealth works for its people.</p>

<h2>A New Deal for the North</h2>

<h5>Strengthen local food production to lower costs for everyone.</h5><p>Rural Ontario feeds our province, but farm families are being squeezed while grocery giants and corporate middlemen make record profits.</p><p>We'll <strong>ban foreign ownership of Ontario farmland</strong> and guarantee farmers the right to repair their own equipment through a <strong>provincial Right to Repair Act.</strong></p><p>No small family farm should have to fight a multinational corporation alone.</p><p>We'll <strong>repeal Bills 5 and 97 </strong>to protect Ontario farmland, invest in rural housing, healthcare, and infrastructure so families can build their futures where they live and work.</p><p>We will strengthen Ontario's food security with a <strong>Farm to Table Act </strong>— so more of the food grown in Ontario is processed in Ontario, sold in Ontario, and served on Ontarians' tables.</p><p>By cutting out corporate profiteering, we'll lower grocery bills, raise farm incomes, and keep Ontario's farmland in the hands of the people who work it.</p><p>And we'll bring manufacturing home: instead of sending billions of public dollars out of province and out of the country, a <strong>Made-in-Ontario Procurement Act</strong> will keep more than $45 billion in annual government purchasing here at home.</p><p>This will create permanent agrifood jobs and strengthen local supply chains.</p>
